THREE Scottish students have won gold at the SkillBuild National Final, which was held in Birmingham.
Organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SkillBuild involves various challenges in a number of skills including plastering, stonemasonry, painting and decorating and bricklaying.
Held at WorldSkills UK LIVE, the SkillBuild 2018 National Final saw over 70 competitors, selected across 15 regional qualifiers, battle it out at the NEC to be named the best in their chosen trade.
Calum Munro, who attends Edinburgh College, won gold in the stonemasonry category, John McMenamin from City of Glasgow College took top prize in plastering, while Aiden Dearie, representing City Building Glasgow, came top in painting and decorating.
Sandy MacGillivray, CITB Scotland regional delivery manager said, “It is fantastic to see a group of talented people from Scotland taking home gold at the 2018 SkillBuild Final. The standard that’s been shown by the competitors over the weekend was hugely impressive. SkillBuild is one of the many ways we can demonstrate the immense talent coming into the construction industry and attract more young people into a rewarding career in our sector.”
