A collaboration between two Aberdeenshire firms has resulted in a major award win. Scotframe and Cairnrowan Custom Homes’ partnership on ‘Glencommon’, near Banchory, was named the Best Self Build Home under £250k at the UK-wide BuildIt awards, held recently in London.
The energy-efficient four-bed detached timber frame home, designed by Fiddes Architects, was built in just seven weeks. The home is clad in a mix of Siberian larch timber and a modern slate wrap-around.
Headquartered in Inverurie, Scotframe manufactures full kit packages for housing and commercial projects. Cairnrowan Custom Homes, based in Udny, builds homes which are A-rated for energy efficiency, air-tight and quick to build. The company builds all its homes using Scotframe’s Val-u-Therm PLUS system.
Malcolm Thomson, sales director at Scotframe said, “It was fantastic to win the award for Best Self Build under £250k. Glencommon has been beautifully designed by Fiddes Architects and due to the efficient partnership working between ourselves and Cairnrowan Custom Homes, the house has been built to a high specification within just a few weeks. It is an exemplar of what can be achieved through regular collaboration and the benefits it can bring to clients.”
Gregor Davidson from Cairnrowan Custom Homes added, “We’re proud to have received this award for our work on Glencommon. We love working on projects which are contemporary and energy efficient whilst meeting the goals of our clients in terms of design, space and importantly budget. We only started out in 2016, but we’ve quickly established a reputation for building extremely energy efficient homes, so we are truly delighted to win this award which is testament to our close collaboration with Scotframe.”
Scotframe and Cairnrowan were also finalists in the Best Timber Frame Home category for ‘Denwell Cottage’ in Insch, Aberdeenshire, designed by Annie Kenyon Architects.
