Worker in coma after fall at AECC site

A construction worker has been injured in a fall at the site of the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC).

The Press and Journal reported that the incident took place at the new £333 million development of The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) on Tuesday afternoon, which is being delivered by Robertson Construction.

The worker is now in an induced coma at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A spokesperson for Robertson said, “We can confirm that one of our sub-contractors working on the AECC was taken to hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are conducting an investigation into the circumstances and will report in full to the HSE.”

Workers’ trade union Unite said in a statement, “Unite is very concerned to hear of this incident and we sincerely hope the injured worker recovers soon.

“There should now be a full, open and transparent investigation involving the HSE, Aberdeen City Council and Robertson’s to ascertain how this incident happened.”
