MORRISON Construction is celebrating a crucial milestone at the Dorenell Windfarm project in Moray with the completion of the final reinforced concrete turbine base.
Since Morrison commenced works in April last year, 59 turbine bases and some 40km of road have been constructed across the seven sections of the wind farm. Civil engineering works are also complete at the project, which is being carried out for EDF Renewables.
Morrison said the focus has now turned to the installation and commissioning of the wind turbine generators. Jim Steele, managing director infrastructure Scotland said, ‘‘It is wonderful to celebrate this important milestone for a project that will provide clean renewable energy as we set out to deliver a low carbon future for Scotland. I am very proud of our team who have overcome a challenging Highland environment and a particularly harsh winter during construction, to complete our works.’’
Once operational, Morrison added that the turbines will generate up to 177MW, which is enough electricity to power more than 130,000 homes.
