Zinc helps shed light on construction heritage

ROOFING and facades from VMZINC have helped bring to life the Engine Shed in Stirling, Historic Environment Scotland’s national conservation centre.

ANTHRA-ZINC standing seam, flat lock and composite panels were specified for the landmark project.

The Engine Shed is Scotland’s first building conservation hub and is designed to provide a facility for people to learn about the nation’s construction heritage and help preserve traditional building skills.

The restored building, which had been designed as a MoD munitions store, still features its original sandstone walls, clerestory window and slate roof structure.

VMZINC said two new adjoining structures, in which zinc predominates, demonstrate how traditional materials can be used in a “contemporary and energy-efficient way”.
