New Edinburgh urban quarter plans move a step closer

COUNCIL planners have given the green light to the first phase of the redevelopment of the former Fountain Brewery site in Edinburgh.

Vastint Hospitality acquired the land in 2016 and plans to create a new urban neighbourhood featuring housing, office space and leisure facilities.

The first phase of works, comprising offices, a 262-bedroom Moxy hotel and several commercial ground floor units, has been approved with work expected to start by the end of the year. Vastint said the office space is expected to attract a mix of corporates and small businesses to support Edinburgh’s creative and tech sectors.

The residential element of the project is still being worked on, with a planning application set to be lodged later this year.

Chris Jetten, development manager at Vastint said, “Our plan heralds a fresh start for Fountainbridge and we look forward to working with the community to create a vibrant, new neighbourhood that forms a distinctive, urban quarter in Edinburgh.”
