Edinburgh Marina project helps breathe new life into historic building

THE Developer behind the new Edinburgh Marina has outlined plans to save the historic Gunpowder Store at Granton Harbour.

The 170-year-old listed building is currently being refurbished as part of the £500 million waterside quarter.  Works include “extensive” repairs to the roof, with the entire refurbishment expected to be completed by July.

The plan is for the renovated Gunpowder Store to be brought back into commercial use for the first time in years, initially as an office and showroom for the Edinburgh Marina development.

Developer Kevin Fawcett explained, “I am delighted that we are able to play a role in saving this important historic building and to bring it back into productive use.

“The building is of significant historical importance to the local and wider community and has been allowed to deteriorate for decades; its renovation is long overdue. Once the various Edinburgh Marina developments at Granton are complete our ambition is for the building to be adopted for use by the local community.”
