A landmark joint faith school campus, which brings pupils from both the Catholic and Jewish faiths together under one roof, specified a wide range of waterproof roofing solutions.
The campus, situated in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, has been described as a “world-first” and incorporates two separate faith primary schools – St Clare’s Primary and Calderwood Lodge.
The joint campus includes features such as a shared central amphitheatre, outdoor obstacle trails and two sports pitches.
BriggsAmasco was appointed by developers Heron Bros to provide all-weather protection for the building in the form of a watertight roofing package.
For the roof’s 5000m2 area, BriggsAmasco installed IKO Polymeric’s Armourplan PVC membrane. Said to be suitable for warm and cold roofs, BriggsAmasco said the system’s flexibility proved vital as it was required to cover several changing metal deck areas over one roof.
The operation included applying a layer of 140mm Rockwool insulation as part of the single-ply waterproof system.
A further challenge was that BriggsAmasco had to co-ordinate works with other on-site trades such as PV and M&E teams to ensure the programme ran to schedule.
Following the roof’s completion, BriggsAmasco sealed all M&E roof penetrations with IKO’s single-ply system. In difficult-to-reach areas not suited to single-ply details, the firm enlisted the assistance of sister company, Aperture. The roof was delivered within the agreed timeframe.
