WORK is to start on the refurbishment and expansion of Dunoon Primary after Morrison Construction was chosen to deliver the project.
The firm has bagged an £8.3 million contract for the works on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council and private sector partner hub North Scotland.
The Victorian building will be refurbished while a new extension is to be added. The expanded school will be able to house 300 pupils and 30 early learning and childcare spaces. Other features include a gym, library and staff accommodation with the new and old elements of the building joined by a feature staircase.
Pupils will stay on-site for the duration of the works, which are scheduled for completion in spring 2019.
Donald McLachlan, managing director for Morrison Construction’s Highland business said, “The new school will become the fourth that Morrison is currently constructing for Argyll and Bute and hub North Scotland Ltd, with the new Campeltown Grammar and Oban High schools, as well as the new Kirn Primary School, already on site.
“We look forward to continuing this spirit of partnership and are confident that with our experienced and dedicated site management team we will deliver what we do best – that is building quality facilities.”
