THREE young ladies have gained valuable experience in the construction industry, working on the expansion and refurbishment of the first of seven operating theatres at Monklands Hospital in North Lanarkshire.
Antonia Collins (18) and Dainah Smith (19) completed work placements with Graham Construction, the firm leading the building phase of the upgrade project. Another trainee, Eimear McLaughlin (19) is working with the company’s commercial team before she returns to Napier University to complete her building surveying degree.
Eimear initially took part in a week’s work experience with Graham three years ago while still at school.Â
Graham revealed that another rising star, Chris Bannantyne (17) spent six weeks working on the Monklands project while studying at New College Lanarkshire where the firm has sponsored a pre-apprentice construction course.
The seven operating theatres are being refurbished through the £19 million Frameworks Scotland 2 agreement. A 10-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) was recently handed over to NHS Lanarkshire.Â
Gary Holmes, regional director of Graham Construction said, “These latest work placements complement the wide range of full-time jobs we created during completion of the Critical Care Unit.Â
