Following a great evening at The May Fair Hotel in the heart of London, Family Business United has announced that Blairgowrie-based A.Proctor Group were winners of the 2015 Scottish Family Business of the Year Award.

The Family Business of the Year Awards were established three years ago to celebrate the contribution that family businesses make to the UK economy. With over three million family firms in the UK, the awards, organised by Family Business United, really help to put family businesses on the map, celebrating their achievements and recognising the diversity of the sector at the same time.

Innovation has run through the Proctor family for as long as they can remember although the company was not founded until 1934 and is now run by the fourth generation of the Proctor family. The family originally manufactured textiles and supplied flax to Scotland’s mills which evolved over time to the supply and fabrication of insulation products. The small family business grew to become the business it is today, a nationwide supplier of Thermal & Acoustic Insulation,Timber Cladding and Ground Gas protection products as well as a range of innovative, market leading vapour permeable membranes, all of which are still manufactured in Scotland today. In more recent years, under new leadership, product diversification has led to success in different markets such as rail infrastructure, automotive and oil and gas. This, coupled with significant success with export to countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia has supported the A Proctor Group in enjoying the best year recorded in 2014.

Keira Proctor, Managing Director of Proctor Group was delighted with the win adding,“We are delighted to have been nominated and win this prestigious Family Business of theYear award. It comes after years of hard work and challenging times within the construction industry, as well as significant changes within the running and diversification of our organisation over recent years. Looking forward, it gives all of us who contribute to the A.Proctor Group’s success a real boost as we actively seek to build and expand upon our achievements to date. I would like to thank our employees who are our biggest asset for their hard work and dedication to the A.Proctor Group.”

Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of the Awards added, “The Proctor Group demonstrate an incredible balance between the old and the new, aware of their heritage but also prepared to move forward to keep pace with the sectors in which they operate. Since taking over in 2012, Keira has continued to build on the groups traditional values of trust, honesty, hard work and innovation, running the business from the desk that her father and her grandfather sat at before her!”

Alexander Garden, partner at Turcan Connell, sponsors of this award added, “We are delighted to be able to present this award to a great Scottish family firm like A Proctor Group. Not only are they a great family firm, manufacturing and innovation is at the very heart of all that they do and they represent the true essence of what being a family business is all about. They are undoubtedly worthy winners of the 2015 title.”

Paul concluded,“The quality of submissions this year was incredible and the judges faced a difficult challenge in determining the winners. The Proctor Group is an incredible business in its own right, irrespective of the family involvement, and part of the diversity and contribution that family firms make across the UK and beyond. The Proctor Group are deserving winners of this award and represent excellent ambassadors for the sector. We look forward to hearing more from them for generations to come.”

In addition to winning the Scottish Family Business of the Year title they also took home the title of 2015 Manufacturing Family Business of theYear.
