Construction union UCATT are seeking urgent talks with administrators, after Leeds-based Hewlett Construction fell into administration.
It is the second time a civil engineering company called Hewlett has gone into administration. In January 2013 Hewlett Civil Engineering went into administration but the company was then rescued by a management buyout.
When the company previously went into administration, UCATT was instrumental in ensuring jobs were protected. Rob Morris, Regional Secretary for UCATT Yorkshire, said, “UCATT is seeking urgent answers from the administrators concerning the future of the company. We will be doing everything possible to preserve our members’ jobs.”
It is understood that the company which is working on several major projects directly employs 150 staff, with other workers employed on a more casual basis. UCATT are advising members to wait and see what the administrators are proposing and in the meantime contact the Leeds Regional office on 0113 264 0211.
Mr Morris added, “If there are job losses then UCATT will ensure that members receive everything that they are entitled to.”
