TEAM Scotland athlete Laura Muir has been appointed a Sports Ambassador to Deer Park Golf & Country Club in Livingston. The middle distance runner, who competes at 800m, 1500m and 3000m, is the Great Niece of John Muir, Chairman of the Fife-based Muir Group which owns and operates Deer Park.

In 2012, Muir Homes announced it was to sponsor Laura. The sponsorship has aided the student of veterinary medicine in her training, travel and accommodation costs as she looks ahead to the 2015 European Indoor Championships in Prague.

As part of her visit to Deer Park Golf & Country Club, which has a thriving Junior Golf section and has hosted the prestigious Tartan Tour ranking Deer Park Masters for the past 13 years, Laura was appointed a Sports Ambassador by her Great Uncle. She was also able to view plans the Muir Group has had drawn up to improve the Golf & Country Club. Subject to planning, the Muir Group hopes to install a brand new entrance, reception area and other upgrades to the Club.

Chairman John Muir said, “Deer Park is the centre of the community for a great many people of all ages here in Livingston who use the club to keep fit, to swim, to play golf or simply to socialise. We want to do all we can to keep young people particularly interested in sport and indeed in looking after themselves and keeping fit, and I think that having an Ambassador like Laura will certainly strike the right tone.”
