GLASGOW-based architectural practice Keppie Design has been appointed to create the masterplan for a new city centre in New Cairo, on behalf of OUIA Real Estate Investment Company, one of the biggest participants of the Libyan Foreign Investment Company, S.A.L.

Keppie originally won the New OUIA Horizon project against stiff competition through an international design contest, after being asked to submit a proposal for the new mixed-use masterplan in the centre of the rapidly developing town.
Once complete the project will accommodate approximately 1.5m sq m of mixed-use urban development including retail, office and leisure components.
David Ross, design director at Keppie, said, “We are naturally very pleased to be working on such a major project. We were able to demonstrate an understanding of cultural and social issues in Egypt through the selection process and we have been working closely with our Libyan client and our local Egyptian partners T.H.E., to deliver a responsive and viable design solution.
“Our overseas work is now taking us to very interesting locations, and it is very gratifying to see our strong expertise in commercial, leisure, healthcare and educational projects developing in such diverse places as Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia and Trinidad.”
