200 jobs are to be created in Aberdeen after planning permission for a new riverside office development was approved by the city council.
Grainger House is being named in honour of the Olympic rowing Gold medal winner Katherine Grainger, who trained on the River Dee in the 1990s.
The £5m development will deliver 20,800 sq ft of high quality, open-plan office space on South Esplanade West. Grainger House will have the capacity to house around 200 people, with 47 car spaces available.
Martin Smith, development director at Robertson Property said, “2014 looks to be a busy year for Aberdeen, a city which is already experiencing a mini-boom period. We are confident in the local market and see this site as the start of redevelopment of the South Dee quarter.
“We expect strong interest in this quality project and expect a range of companies to be interested in this opportunity.
“We’d also like to thank Katherine Grainger for agreeing to let us name the building after her and we are confident she’ll be pleased with the finished product.”
Katherine Grainger said, “To have a building named after you is a huge honour and I’d like to wish the project the greatest of success.
“I know this stretch of the Dee well having spent many hours here in training and it’s great to see the area is thriving with more people being drawn down to the waterfront.
“I’ve been impressed by the plans and look forward to visiting once the building’s been completed.”
Katherine Monro, a partner in the Aberdeen office of property agent, Knight Frank, said, “There is strong interest around Aberdeen’s riverside developments and Grainger House will be an attractive proposition for companies looking to relocate.
“With excellent access to the city centre, the harbour, and major roads the development occupies a great business location. With the shops, restaurants and leisure facilities at Union Square and the city centre also within easy reach, as well as the rail and bus hubs, there are a number of added advantages.
“We expect a high level of interest from prospective tenants in the weeks and months ahead.”
