A £3.2 million affordable new homes development, delivered in Carrongrove, Denny as part of the National Housing Trust initiative, has been completed.
The achievement was marked by a visit from the Minister for Housing and Welfare, Margaret Burgess.
The Minister met Carrongrove tenants at the development, which was secured through a partnership between Mactaggart & Mickel Homes Ltd, Falkirk Council, Scottish Futures Trust and the Scottish Government.
The 27 NHT units range from two-bedroom apartments to two-bedroom terraced houses and are available solely for mid-market rent – a form of affordable housing for households with a low or modest income which allows tenants to pay rent levels below the normal market rent level.
Margaret Burgess said, “It is my belief that everyone should live in a comfortable home which doesn’t cost the earth to keep.
“Over 1,300 homes have already been approved through the National Housing Trust initiative in communities across Scotland.
“The completion of this development will provide a further 27 much needed homes for mid-market rent in Denny.”
Link Group Ltd is overseeing the management and maintenance of the development and since completion, tenants have been eager to secure a residence at Carrongrove with all the units now let.
Carrongrove resident Laura Ross said, “We love our new house. NHT has given us the opportunity to live in a new home with a very reasonable rent which will allow us to save so that we can purchase our home in five years’ time.”
Liz Hamilton, Land Manager for Mactaggart & Mickel Homes Ltd, said, “This project serves to demonstrate how the public and private sector in Scotland is capable of working well together.”
