KIER has completed Scotland’s first-ever purpose-built integrated campus for a mainstream primary school and additional support needs school.
The £8.7 million East Kilbride campus was handed over five-weeks early, under budget and with no defects.
Pupils at Maxwellton Primary School and Greenburn School have already taken their place at the new facility, which is formed over two levels and has therapy rooms, a sensory room, a soft playroom and hydrotherapy pool. Extra fire lifts have been added to give pupils with additional needs access to the upper floor.
Construction on the site took place while pupils continued to attend the adjacent schools.
Jan McLaren, head teacher of Maxwellton Primary, said, “I keep telling everyone that a school is not a building, it is much more than that. But a great school in a beautiful new building and learning environment is about as good as it gets.”
