The number of new homes started in the year to September 2012 increased by 11% over the previous year, the first increase since 2006. Scottish Government statistics confirmed 13,830 homes were started compared to 12,427 in the year to September 30 2011.
The figures also showed the number of council houses completed in the 2012 calendar year topped 1,000 for the first time since 1991.
