A cinema complex once dubbed Britain’s most despised building has been demolished.
The IMAX complex on the sea front at Bournemouth was greeted with widespread criticism when it was completed in 1998, mainly for obscuring views across the water towards the Purbeck Hills. The complex included a multi-screen cinema that opened two years after building finished and then closed unexpectedly in 2001. The structure lay dormant until Bournemouth Council announced it would buy the site, demolish the building and create an outdoor events space for music and arts.
The demolition project took four months and was carried out by 777 Group.
