TRANSPORT Scotland has confirmed that a vital road link between the central belt and the Highlands will close for 14 weeks as part a year-long construction programme.
The agency has awarded the £9.2m contract to improve the A82 at Pulpit Rock on Loch Lomondside to McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd.
Work is expected to start in the spring and will include a new viaduct running parallel to the shoreline. The road will also be widened to allow vehicles to pass more easily.
Transport minister Keith Brown said: “We fully recognise delivery will not be without its engineering challenges.
“Throughout the procurement process emphasis has been placed on minimising the impact on communities and businesses. I have tasked Transport Scotland to ensure this continues to remain a key focus throughout construction.”
Building the new viaduct and cutting the rock on the landward side of the road will require the A82 to be closed for up to 14 weeks from October 1.
Also on the roads, a ground investigations contract has been awarded to WYG to help pave the way for the Maybole Bypass in Ayrshire.
