AN underground stream is the key to an unusual project being undertaken by Ecofitter in East Lothian.
The MCS-accredited consultancy is fitting two 42KW Danfoss heat pumps to a 14-bed property (pictured) where a ground source loop is being fed by the subterranean stream instead of being laid in the ground.
The water is pumped underground from the stream, filtered and run through a 64-plate heat exchanger, which then feeds the 50-metre loop of glycol that runs up to the heat pumps at the back of the property.
A spokeswoman for the Borders firm said: “This has enabled us to get the required constant temperature change in order to run a ground sourceheat pump without damaging the beautiful gardens.”
