Try, try again – funding heritage regeneration in Kirkintilloch

A council’s town centre regeneration plans are on hold after it failed in a bid for £1.25m funding.
East Dunbartonshire Council said it will now explore new avenues for funding heritage regeneration in Kirkintilloch after losing out on a grant from Historic Scotland.
The council launched a £1.25m bid late last summer to help support master plan proposals for a project that included works bringing Kirkintilloch Town Hall back into use.
Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: “Whilst this is very disappointing, Historic Scotland has advised the council and its partners to apply for another Historic Scotland grant programme for large building repairs to support the town hall element of the package of works in the town centre. This bid runs three times a year and officers are now preparing a submission.”
A separate bid was also submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund Townscape Heritage Initiative and the outcome of that submission is expected in March.
