Green light for 43-home Govan affordable housing development

A new affordable housing development comprising 43 properties is set to be delivered in Govan, Glasgow.

The project will be led by The JR Group, working with Elderpark Housing Association. Funding has been confirmed from Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council enabling the works to go ahead on Nimmo Drive.

The development will include a mix of homes split across two blocks, with one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments to meet a variety of family sizes and needs.

Under the approved plans, the homes will be built on the grounds of a former industrial site and the Elder Park community centre, which will move its activities to the newly refurbished Govan library nearby.

The apartments will feature lift access across both blocks and sustainable heating. There will also be ‘ample’ amenity space across the development as well as internal and external bike stores.

As well as Elderpark Housing Association, The JR Group will be working with Trust Housing Association (who will provide development services), MAST Architects, Clyde Design Partnership, Carbon Futures and Iceni Planning to deliver this project.

Andrew Dallas, projects director for The JR Group, said, “Our proposals for this modern development at Nimmo Drive in Govan have been with the planners at Glasgow City Council for a number of years, so it is fantastic to see planning be approved and vital funding secured from both the council and the Scottish Government to enable works to start quickly.

“Nimmo Drive sits in the centre of a well-established community in Govan, and we are proud to play a part, working alongside our clients to breathe new life into this area by delivering high quality and energy efficient homes, suitable for a mix of tenants. This is our first project with Elderpark Housing Association, so we look forward to building a strong working relationship and starting work in the summer as the project continues to gather momentum.”

Gary Dalziel, Elderpark Housing Association chief executive, added, “We are delighted to be working with The JR Group with support from our development consultants at Trust Housing Association, on this development of 43 new homes within the heart of our community. We are grateful of the support of Glasgow City Council with the commitment to provide significant housing association grant funding to make this possible and look forward to work starting on these high quality new homes in the summer of this year.”

Work is expected to start this summer with completion tipped for towards the end of 2025.
