TRADESPEOPLE are being given the chance to have a kick about at Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge stadium this summer in aid of mental health charity, Mind.

IronmongeryDirect is behind the event, which comes following the business’ annual Mental Health in the Trades report revealing that four in five (82%) tradespeople have experienced symptoms, such as anxiety or depression, due to work.

The seven-a-side charity tournament will be held on May 25 (9:00-12:00) during Mental Health Awareness Week, with this year’s campaign having a focus on movement and the benefits of exercise and staying active.

There are 48 spaces available for the tournament, with players arranged into teams based on their trades. Squads will represent the most common professions in the sector – builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and joiners, roofers and scaffolders, and all other trades.

Money raised from the event will be donated to Mind, the mental health charity, with IronmongeryDirect having already donated over £13,000 to support their vital services over the last few years.

Selected players will be required to fundraise for Mind, and there will also be activities on the day, such as penalty shootouts, where more money can be raised, with IronmongeryDirect making donations for each successful attempt.

Ellis Osborn, E-commerce manager at IronmongeryDirect, said, “We’re delighted to offer tradespeople the exciting opportunity to play at Stamford Bridge, and get the full Premier League experience!

“It should be a really fun event and hopefully a great day for all involved, but it’s important to remember the reasons behind the campaign, and emphasise how much exercise can benefit your mental health.

“Mental health problems are unfortunately prevalent across the industry, and that’s why we’re continuing to raise awareness, and encourage tradespeople to seek support if needed.”
